About a year ago, I helped rescue Nestor Arley Quinchia Valencia, a six-year-old child from Colombia.
I got connected with Nestor after a Shaun Groves concert. I thought it would be a good idea to have my protégé, RJ, and I sponsor a Compassion child together. Unfortunately, I haven’t been very diligent in including RJ, so the sponsorship has pretty much become my own.
Nestor and I have written twice. He isn’t old enough to write the letters himself, but he dictates them to a translator. Each time, he concludes by sending me and my family “love and hugs.” Oh, and he always includes a hand-drawn picture.
Nestor is a precious child; a precious child who has been rescued from the poverty in which many of his friends and family live. And I have a hand in that.
I know, I know, we’re not supposed to brag about the good things that we do. I’m not sharing my rescuing-story to brag, but merely to highlight a simple fact: I, Todd Ramsey, a high-powered (in my own mind) advertising account executive in Wichita, Kan., have helped rescue a child I’ve never met in a country which I have never visited.
And it’s easy.
I signed a form, gave my credit card information (allowing Compassion to deduct $32 a month) and I was done. Aside from writing two letters, I have done nothing else to rescue a small child in need.
How awesome is that?
I don’t know what your monthly finances look like. I don’t know how easily you can carve out a $32-a-month donation, but I encourage you to explore the possibility. It is the easiest way to make a profound, global difference.

P.S. If you do sign up online, can you please include my name in the referral box? I’m an advocate for Compassion and they need to keep track of referrals to ensure that they’re being good stewards.
