The Pharisee of Jesus day got more things "right" about God than any other group at the time. They were right on the resurrection, the relationship between God and government, the importance of obeying God and the need to love their brothers among many other correct understandings. Why did Jesus insist on being so negative towards them and give so little attention to the much worse, and much bigger target, of Rome?
The comment above is an example of why your post was on target. It slices the onion ever thinner. Other groups don't experience "true worship" because it is deemed either too scripted or too performance oriented (and they can't make the big time so that makes it even worse!) Other groups are too focused on clapping or overhead projectors and they will naturally(?) die away.
As long as our central story is "we are right and everyone else is wrong" we will be centered on us and Jesus will be supplementary material.

Todd, I have to say that what bothers me is the fact that you are focusing on the negative parts of the CofC rather than the positive. I have visited other non CofC churches and rather than seeing true worship, I either see scripted worship (stand up, sit down, read this responsive sentence-whether I believe it or not), or I feel like I'm at a concert of performers that can't make the big time. At both, I didn't hear discussions of care for the community, the schools, or the lost.

I can say that I have also been to dying CofC's that focus on whether clapping and overhead projecters are scriptural. Those congregations will naturally die away.

Thank you for clarifying your position. There are individual legalistic churches of Christ that will most likely die, to be replaced by those churches of Christ that focus on God's plan to love Him and love others. Hopefully spreading the positive news of our love for God and what we are doing to save the lost will eventually replace the old legalistic stereotype.
