Lengthy? Lengthy?! I'll show you lengthy! ;-)

I use Google Reader to create my blogroll. If I'm not subscribing, it won't show up on my blogroll. Here's how I do it. And I do read all those blogs...

I see a couple of reasons to have a rotating list:

1. You want to highlight just a few blogs. If your blogroll is too long, people might never make it to the end. Some people do it randomly. Others will provide a subset that rotates more slowly, say once a week.

2. You don't have room for a long blogroll. If you use K2's sidebar manager, you can ensure the blogroll appears only on your blog's main page (likely very long) and not your individual posts (likely relatively short).

I think a blogroll is a way to tell you a little bit about me: these are the blogs I read. Some people will list books they're reading or read recently. I like my blogroll to serve a similar purpose. And for that reason, I like to provide the whole list, not just a portion.

Thanks for including me on your list of schweet blogs!

I use Google Reader's ability to share folders, and Blogger's ability to display RSS feeds. I show the most recent ten or fifteen posts in the sidebar, and if somebody wants to see the whole blogroll they can hop out to GReader anytime.

Blogger has some kind of method to display the whole blogroll, too, but I don't like to delete inactive blogs (sometimes they come back) but I don't like to necessarily give them the same standing on my own pages (sometimes they come back as malware/porn sites), so I like my method better.

And of course since I actually use GReader to read blogs, I don't have to go "oh, I started reading a few new blogs, I should get around to putting them in the blogroll."
